The wind whispered to them gently to gradually bring in an air of pure grace. Life itself floated around them in the form of rich purple clouds. They twisted in the air and told to the two present of the legends of new growth and mystic wisdom. The Empress sought after that life. The energy within those clouds made her uneasy and anxious but she knew she needed it. Desperately she looked at the palace healer beside her, whom she had chosen to bring along as he had the knowledge of timeless magic. He alone knew. He alone knew just how much she needed that life.
Threatened by a holy goddess, she had no choice but to seek help in order to protect her kingdom, the reign had taken almost five thousand years of ancestry to establish. An echoing voice revisited her head. As it rang through her head, her mind wanted to burst out in fury. She screamed as the voice penetrated her, scorched her. Why did it have to come back? The first time she had hear that voice, she felt pain unimaginable. All the goddess' wrath had been unleashed on her mercilessly in that moment. She had passed out for a week after that. After that the voice kept revisiting her, reminding her of her promise. Reminding her that if she did not satisfy the goddess of Air, her empire would be destroyed in an instant with its thousands upon thousands inhabitants tortured until Time ends as they would be denied the right to immortality. With a sudden urge of effort, her heart pushed the aching thoughts away. She instantly recovered, although still shaken.
"Lady Lekmee, look yonder"
Fallaner en'Liste the healer pointed in the direction of what had alerted him. The empress turned her head towards it and became startled. Where Fallaner's hand had been before he lowered it, there was a glowing moon-hare with a coat of white fur that out-whited the snow. It did not appear as if it had noticed the two newcomers. Whether that was because for three days Fallaner had cast a spell upon the Empress Lekmee in order that she would be soundless until the spell was released or because the moon-hare owned a state of mind to itself, would never be known. The empress turned away as the moon-hare continued to pound at the herbal elixir.
Three days they had travelled!
After calling upon the spirits to send her into the highest heaven, by the will of the ruler she was allowed to enter. She was warned that once she was in this heaven, her fate would no longer be certain. Wary but with no other choice she agreed. Now she began to wonder why. For three days they had walked with no sight of the Metal Mother, Xi Wang Mu. Three days they had walked to see the many holy beings possessed by the Nine Heavens. The seven-horned stag had looked promising. It had led them out of the fog to reveal the glistening jade mountains. One second the two had raised their heads to admire the landscape and the next the stag had disappeared. In vain they tried to seek it.
She had observed various things about these heavens. From the fourth heaven and above, the weather was as you desired. Although she was attired in a delicate silk dress with flowing lace, she could not feel the cold. Her hair was kept up in a fancy bun, decorated with various flowers and a silver headdress symbolising the power she possessed over the land of Air and Water. All beings in the heavens were peaceful in nature. The feeling that drifted from them was too strange to explain with words alone. After Fallaner's advice however, she had settled that they were almost radiating a sense of dominance whilst been compassionate. It was really heaven. She sensed the life. She just needed the source of it.
On the fourth day as she walked across the great Jade and Sapphire river of the Ninth Heaven, she felt an overwhelming presence about her. She looked around her surroundings and almost fainted. There to her west, was the Xi Wang Mu. It seemed that the healer Fallaner could not see the Metal Mother, nor feel her great present. He did not stop in his business of making daily herbs. All too sudden, she noticed that her once blurry surroundings had become much clearer. To her surprise, Fallaner had risen. He was now dressed in a white that mimicked the white of the moon-hair and in his hand was the long, oak staff of Xi Wang Mu. She then felt the sudden fury erupting from the Goddess of the Ninth Heaven.
It was said that Fallaner had taken the empress Lekmee and ran then. Fallaner never revealed to his empress how he had obtained the staff from the Goddess of the West. Together they passed through the Eighth Heaven, where they used the power of the staff to summon scrolls upon which they wrote words of negotiation. They then commanded a three-legged raven to send the scroll back to Xi Wang Mu. For sixty-seven days they waited. Darkness passed on the Eighth Heaven and the shamans whom travelled along the ladder between the Heavens and the Earth were stopped along their paths. What caused this strange darkness was unconfirmed, for the heavens had never experienced any darkness previously. Some rumoured that when the empress Lekmee fled with Fallaner, much wrath from the Metal Mother had been passed onto her, so that when she reached the Eighth Heaven, the anger slowly poured out to fill the air. On the sixty-seventh day, when the raven returned with news, Lekmee’s headdress was dropped into the Seventh Heaven. Since then a similar headdress had fallen down to earth but its colour was not silver but a deep crimson red of love. Some believed it was the love shared between Fallaner and Lekmee. Some believed it signified the hatred of Lekmee towards Fallaner, who had angered the only hope of her nations. And others believed that it belonged only to her because through love she had saved her beloved kingdom and people.
Messengers from the heavens had shared the news with the people of the Land of Air and Water four days after the scroll of negotiation had been found. In exchange for her staff Xi Wang Mu had handed to Lekmee a precious peach of immortality found only on the Kun Lun mountains of jade. Droplets of her blood had been imprinted onto the scroll as her token. As she bled, the pure blood overflowing with life melted the dragon and tiger throne on which she sat on. Without the peach of immortality and bleeding away her life she had no choice but to put herself to sleep.
The healer Fallaner returned to the First Heaven to deliver the peach to the Goddess of Air. Satisfied, she extracted the life within the peach to extend her grace upon the Land of Water and Air. The inhabitants would now live an extended life of joy. The empress Lekmee never returned. She stayed in the Ninth Heaven eating the peach of immortality from the colossal Tree in the gardens as it gave fruit every one thousand years and lived on protecting the her kingdom from above. For as long as she lived and guarded the life-giving fruits, Xi Wang Mu could never rise to take revenge up her empire.
All the lands forever more thus worshipped Empress Lekmee and the Healer Fallaner. They became the Two Protectors of Above and Below, of Heaven and Earth, of Love and Power and of Life and Death.

This is a contest entry! *excited*
Finally completed this piece! It took many hours of thought and research and was by far the most challenging theme I've ever embraced. For me, this piece taught me many things, myth-wise and about story development. It's quite a new style of writing for me too. So I would like to thank *AzraelEvangeline and =yami-caffeine for holding this contest! I never thought it could do so much for me.
----------------------------------------------
This story is inspired and based on Chinese Mythology and Taoism.
This is a self-created myth. I have changed many aspects of both so I could develop my own story. Xi Wang Mu is the Taoist Goddess associated predominately with the direction West and element metal. More information about her can be read at the reference I used here:

The thing I love most about this piece is that it's a completely self-made myth but it still reads exactly like a Tao scripture would I also like that you took two characters that weren't on the sheets together but still have a very friendly relationship with each other good luck in the contest!!
